When Love Is Missing, It Shows Up at Work

“Some people are not chasing relationships — they are chasing reassurance.”

For many professionals, that chase doesn’t happen in romance alone.
It shows up at work.

If you were loved well, it often shows in your decisions.
If you weren’t, it often shows too, unless you pause and heal.

Here’s how this can look in a work context:

  • You constantly need validation for your ideas, emails, or projects — not feedback, validation.

  • You feel deeply unsettled when your boss doesn’t praise your work, even if nothing is wrong.

  • You overwork, not because the task demands it, but because you want to feel seen.

  • You struggle to say no, because approval feels safer than boundaries.

These patterns don’t mean you’re weak or unserious.
They often point to an emotional gap, not a professional one.

Purpose requires clarity.
And clarity struggles to grow where emotional hunger is driving decisions.

When you know you are loved unconditionally, you don’t make desperate decisions in your career or your relationships. You don’t "chase" because there is no void to fill.

Reflection

This week, ask yourself:

Awareness is not condemnation. It’s alignment.

Once you recognise that emotional needs may be shaping how you show up at work, the next step is intentional healing and alignment.

1. Start by separating your worth from your work.

Feedback is useful, but affirmation should not be your fuel.

Build habits that ground you, like journaling, mentorship, honest conversations, reflection, and environments that reinforce growth without constantly making you prove yourself.

2. You can also begin setting small boundaries

Saying no when needed, accepting silence without panic, and allowing your performance to come from purpose rather than pressure.

Growth becomes healthier when it flows from wholeness, not emotional hunger.

If this reflection resonates, turn on your notifications so you don’t miss the rest of this February series.

And if you know a fellow professional who might quietly be navigating this too, share this post with them; one insight can shift how someone shows up at work and in life.
